He began his career in 2007 as a member of the litigation area, with the purpose of incorporating his knowledge in criminal matters into our different practice areas, due to his experience in this area.  Thanks to his arrival, FerradaNehme began incorporating the criminal aspects in its practice of Competition, especially in various cases involving collusion, cases of economic criminal law, and as of 2013, from his role as the director of our Compliance area.

He has been a professor of criminal law at the Universidad de Chile, and other universities in compliance matters, holds a Master’s in Law with a specialization in criminal law from the University Pompeu Fabra, and currently is working towards a doctorate in criminal law with the same university.

Rafael’s return from his international studies, and his focus on business criminal law prompted the creation of our Compliance area, the first in Chile’s legal market. This area systematized and united decades of experience in preventive-focused work, creating a system of work known for excellence by international clients and rankings, mainly for its practical approach, closely meeting the needs of customers, and the deep knowledge of the applicable legislation that it contains.

Along with heading our preventive legal services, Rafael is an expert litigator with experience in criminal, competition, administrative, and civil courts. This combination of preventive work with experience in litigation makes Rafael one of the lawyers with the greatest experience and capacity in compliance matters, because shows an important approach to the different experiences that must avoided preventively, known the main Chilean cases in the field of economic criminal law.

Currently, Rafael is a member of the Chilean Institute of Criminal Sciences, part of the Ethics and Governance Committee of the NGO Action Companies, and a member of the Society for Ethics and Compliance.
